ñޜFor a long time, I had been looking at different universities abroad and heard England has a good reputation for higher-level education.

The ñ caught my eye. Firstly, for its friendliness and openness of staff and secondly for its location within the city, which is perfect for studying and student life

Degrees are practically based and there is more of a personal approach to students than elsewhere in Europe. I soon realised England has the best choice of English-taught courses.ñޝ

So, why ñ?

ñޜMy course was the main reason I came to study in ñ. Originally I wanted to study Interior Design but a Skype interview with one of the tutors really changed my mind.

He showed me how students work together in one big open-space studio.

Later, the course provided me with many opportunities to grow as a designer such as internships, workshops or competitions.ñޝ

Craving comfort food

ñޜFood culture is different from home and it can be hard to find what I crave for, but then I get to taste many new dishes because there are many other international students living here who bring along their own food culture.ñޝ

Events, tours and summer school

ñޜI took part in an International Summer School at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China

We worked on a project about ñޘDesign in the 3D printing ageñޙ but part of the trip was an excursion to a company who were making buildings from concrete using a 3D printer. We also enjoyed historical tours and a taste of traditional cuisine.

Itñޙs exciting because there are lots of events at the University where I got to meet other international students, Erasmus students and some from around the world too.ñޝ

Social animal

ñޜDonñޙt be afraid to ask for help and donñޙt worry if your English isnñޙt perfect.

In your first year join straight away, socialise, go to events and use every opportunity to make contacts for your future career or take part in a project. Be active.

I went to as many events at the beginning of the year as possible.

The ñ takes care of its students, there is lots of support and assistance available on the future of graduates, such as the Careers Service.ñޝ

Weekend fun

ñޜI like the , for special occasions.
However, the Universityñޙs on-campus Drakeñޙs Café is a place where I go for lunch during a working day.ñޝ

ñޜMy free time is spent on nights out in the Student Union or on North Hill. On a Friday or Saturday I'm usually finishing off my coursework, going to The Hoe or the nearest beach on a Sunday.ñޝ

The best advice...

ñޜI attended the International Week at the beginning of September which included a couple of talks about setting up a bank account and .

I would attend some of the campus or city tours led by student ambassadors or go and explore on your own.ñޝ

  • Aldi or Lidl are the most affordable shops in the city.
  • Get a Totem card for discounts in Co-op and travelling by Megabus.
  • Bring a proper raincoat and some good waterproof shoes, and donñޙt forget an adaptor.
