About us

Our mission: The School of Nursing and Midwifery (SNAM) delivers impactful and innovative nursing and midwifery education and research which transforms care for the benefit of all who utilise and work within care services locally, nationally and internationally.
Quality education and research: Our nursing and midwifery courses are routinely ranked in the higher positions of UK University league tables e.g. in 2023, nursing courses were ranked 13th out of 78 institutions (Complete University Guide) with midwifery ranked 6th in the UK (Guardian UK University rankings). The Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021) results confirmed our position as a dynamic research institution in the UK. Students also benefit from inter-disciplinary learning and research opportunities, drawing on the breadth of healthcare and medical courses delivered at the ñ, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and medicine.
Starting your nursing or midwifery career? SNAM delivers a range of nursing (adult, child, mental health and nursing associate) and midwifery courses, which have been designed with your career and the future needs of the NHS in mind. Whether studying in ñ, Exeter or Truro, our students undertake high-quality placements, in addition to accessing state-of-the-art simulated and virtual reality teaching spaces. 
Advancing your nursing or midwifery career? Postgraduate and post-registration courses, leading to MSc, are available for those interested in developing advanced clinical practice skills or leading to MPhil and PhD for those with an interest in a research career.

Our interdisciplinary research takes account of how healthcare will evolve

We research sustainability, use of new genetic knowledge and technologies, the ageing population, use of internet and mobile technologies, changes in clinical education, contemporary nursing, and how knowledge is translated into practice and policy. We have a number of experienced academic research supervisors ready to advise you on your research journey.
