Registry cleaner FAQ'S
What is the Windows registry?
Your computer
has a filing system that tells it how to run programs: it stores instructions on
how to access your printer, your modem, your screen, your hard drive etc. This filing
system has a hierarchy of hard drives, file directories, and individual files that
organize the programs on your computer. There is a lot of information here that
needs to be managed. This information is managed by a huge directory of commands
and instructions that instructs your computer what to do. It tells programs how
to relate to one another, where to find resources, how to interact with hardware,
and how to display user preferences. These commands are stored in your computer’s
Registry. It's similar to the File System except, instead of files, it has instructions.
These Instructions are called Registry Entries.
What are Registry Errors and What is
Registry Corruption?
Like any
complex system, having an unclear set of instructions will cause slow downs and
problems. Sometimes 2 or more Registry Entries create conflicting orders. In other
instances, a certain program (like internet browser or Word software) needs to access
certain resources, but the Registry doesn't know where to find them. When these
things happen the result is a host of applications that don't know how to behave.
When Registry Entries are changed or deleted (and sometimes even duplicated)- this
causes problems. In such cases we get Registry errors that are caused by a corrupted
Registry.
How did these Registry Errors Get into my Computer?
If you have
been using your computer for some time, you have probably installed and un-installed
some software programs. Uninstalling software is only one part of cleaning your
computer, but since almost all programs use Registry entries, the uninstall is never
complete without cleaning your Registry and deleting the Registry Entries used by
the program. Most of the time the un-install does not clear the Registry Entries
because the software company does not want to risk deleting Registry Entries used
by other programs, and damaging your computer. The undeleted entries have no purpose
at all and cause errors that need to be fixed. As a rule of thumb- the more you
install and un-install programs, the more errors you will have and your computer
will be slow. There are off course other causes for Registry errors, such as adding
and removing computer hardware, adjusting the user profiles on your computer, changing
your user settings, and other routine day-to-day computer actives that create Registry
entries and errors.
How can I know if I have a Corrupted Registry?
There are
many signs to a Corrupted Registry. The first 2 typical signs are repeated system
errors, and general computer slowdown. The 3rd sign is one you would prefer not
to see- a full system freeze or crash. If you think you are suffering from any of
these 3 – run a free scan and in minutes you will receive an easy to understand
report of your system errors. The repeated errors can be of many kinds: Explorer
errors, DLL errors, File cannot be found errors and others. These errors will pop
up when your computer tries to do something that it no longer has a set of instructions
for. Your PC will try to perform the instructions it received, but if it fails to
perform the requested task your computer will give up and show an error message.
Slowdown of your computer is from a similar reason. The computer tries to perform
a command (open/close a software application) but cannot succeed because of wrong
registry keys. Your computer will keep trying and this will take up a considerable
amount of its resources and its speed. For this reason you will experience a slow
computer. If these situations are severe- your computer might actually crash. If
the registry tries to perform an operation it can’t- it might freeze up totally!
So don’t wait for that to happen- scan your registry today with our free software
and see if its time to repair it.
Can I fix my computer registry myself?
Yes, if you are a real IT expert and you have the time to dive deeply into it. Repairing your own Registry is possible but not recommended because there is a lot of sensitive data which if you delete may cause other applications on your computer not to work. Even if you are quite clued up about computers and IT, you should know that your computer Registry hierarchy of commands and files is organized in an intuitive manner like your computer’s file system. Many of the entries are numeric lists that can have hundreds of entries. Most non professional users that tried to fix registry errors alone told us that they were overwhelmed with the amount of time and work needed to invest to clean registry errors. Most actually decided its not worth their time and bought our easy to use software which did the job of repairing registry errors for them.
