Are you passionate about care home nursing?
Join our community of practice for registered nurses working in care homes for older adults. This community is a place for you to learn, share ideas and build your professional support network.
We aim to hold four meetings a year, where you will hear from experts and discuss and reflect on what matters to you as a care home nurse. Book now for our first session.
Agenda:
- 1:30 – 1:40pm: Welcome and Introductions
- 1:40 – 1:50pm: Icebreaker: “My Nursing Superpower” Please come ready to share (in chat or out loud) one skill, trait, or habit you bring to care home nursing that makes a difference for residents or your team.
- 1:50 – 2:25pm: Guest Speaker: Professor Terence Quinn – “Measuring things that are difficult to measure: cognition, frailty, function” (Presentation and Q&A)
- 2:25 – 2:35pm: Break
- 2:35 – 4:05pm: NMC Regulation Advisers (Loucia Kyprianou and Linda Martin) – Interactive Session and Case Study Work
- 4:05 – 4:35pm: Clinical Supervision Case Study: Complex Care Home Nursing – group discussion, reflection, and action planning
- 4:35 – 4:45pm: Group Reflection, Feedback and Closing Remarks
About the speakers:
Loucia Kyprianou (Regulation Adviser for Independent Health and Care across the UK, NMC) and Linda Martin (Regulation Adviser for Scotland, NMC) work in partnership to extend NMC’s reach as far as possible. They work within NMC’s Employer Link Service, which works closely with employers and stakeholders to provide advice and support in relation to all aspects of the NMC’s regulatory functions including; education, fitness to practise and registration.
Professor Terry Quinn is David Cargill Chair of Geriatrics at the University of Glasgow. His research includes trial methodology, functional/cognitive assessment and evidence synthesis. Terry has various editorial board positions, including coordinating Deputy Editor Age and Ageing. He is past chair of the stroke psychology SIG of the World Federation of Neuropsychology and is both NRS Scotland and RDN UK Lead for Ageing Research.
