Discover our life-changing medical research facility
From brain tumours to vaccines, tissue regeneration to new cancer drugs, our state-of-the-art centre brings together all of the University’s lab-based research to focus on the development of new therapeutics, diagnostics, interventions and approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases, enhance patient outcomes and improve global healthcare.
Located adjacent to the University’s Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at , and next to Derriford Hospital, the facility allows greater collaboration between medical, dental and biomedical researchers at the university, as well as with research clinicians from University Hospitals °µÍø½âÃÜ NHS Trust.

World-class research

From brain tumours to vaccines, tissue regeneration to hepatitis, antibiotic resistance to innovative cancer drugs, research at the Derriford Research Facility focuses on the development of new therapeutics, diagnostics, interventions and approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat devastating diseases, enhance patient outcomes and improve global healthcare. 
Research into cancer, clinical neuroscience and infection, immunity, inflammation, is facilitated by cross-cutting expertise in diagnostics, clinical trials and public health research.

HPLC/LCMS analytical services
Microarray platform technology
Level two and three containment facilities
Cell/tissue culture and analysis facilities

Centre for Therapeutic Ultrasound 

One of the most advanced and comprehensive transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) research centres in the world, led by Professor Elsa Fouragnan – a leading authority on brain stimulation research in the UK and recognised internationally.
The only centre that is investigating TUS safety, biomechanics and undertaking clinical studies, our multidisciplinary approach combined with working across several research labs and patient facilities is truly unique.
