James Macmillan BA (Hons) Architecture

"My A levels didn't go to plan and I ended up taking a gap year. When I came back I studied a foundation course before starting the architecture degree.

Architecture offers each student a desk in a studio, a space that is yours to do as you wish with it. The studio culture here is amazing, integrating both a working and social environment into one place. Studying architecture allows you to pursue your own interests and work collaboratively with tutors to tell you if youÂÌñ»»ÆÞ™re straying too far from the path. The tutors here are also fantastic and as a collective the team have a spectrum of specialisms. The UniversityÂÌñ»»ÆÞ™s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business also has a range of facilities that are open to all students, ranging from wood and metal workshops to screen and 3D printing.

Studying architecture has offered me a plethora of pathways to pursue. I feel that, in studying at ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ, I can enter any design occupation anywhere in the world. The city is great but what I like best about ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ is whatÂÌñ»»ÆÞ™s on its doorstep. ItÂÌñ»»ÆÞ™s really easy to get out of the city and visit the coast or Dartmoor."
