There are various ways that you can help support the University and future generations of °µÍø½âÃÜ alumni, from mentoring a student to donating a financial gift for a specific project.  Discover how you can make a difference.

Become an alumni ambassador

Are you passionate about the University and want to give back to the community? Our Alumni Ambassador scheme could be for you. We are looking for proactive, creative and enthusiastic alumni who would be willing to volunteer their time to a number of engagement activities, including:
  • public speaking
  • write a case study describing your journey since graduation
  • social media content generating
  • mentoring final year students and new graduates
  • event hosting and assisting
  • writing a piece for our Invenite magazine.
The role only requires you to commit the time you have available to you and is a great opportunity to give back to the University in a rewarding and fulfilling way.

Mentor a student 

Could your experiences help to raise the career aspirations of a °µÍø½âÃÜ student? The Careers Mentoring Programmes offers students the opportunity to meet with an experienced professional, relevant to their career aspirations, who will mentor them over a six-month period. 
Professional mentoring is a rewarding experience which helps our students build a range of skills and allows you to develop coaching skills and develop undergraduates’ interest in your sector and your business.

I love being a mentor, sharing my knowledge and giving back. I highly recommend it, I always learn something new during each session. I love seeing the confidence of the mentees grow, they always have so much talent but often don’t see it! I have met some of the other mentors who are incredible local entrepreneurs and accomplished leaders in businesses across the city. It has been a great way to network and a fantastic experience.

I have been a mentor for three years now, having successfully mentored two students and currently mentoring a third. I have mentored both undergraduates and postgraduates, mostly focusing on how to step into the working world after university and beginning a career. I have been able to share the knowledge and experiences that I have gained within industry and help those that I have mentored. This has been incredibly rewarding and allows me to demonstrate my development, and help those still at university.

Offer a work placement or internship

Offer a work placement to current students, provide a graduate internship, or promote a job vacancy using the help of our careers service .

Take part in an event

Share the knowledge and experience you've gained since graduating with our current students by attending a careers networking event or offering your services as a guest speaker.
We run several events throughout the year – from employability workshops to sector-specific careers fairs. If you would like to find out how your insights could benefit our students get in touch at alumni@plymouth.ac.uk. You can also keep up to date via our events page.

Make a donation

As well as volunteering your time or expertise to support us, you can give a financial gift. Both are hugely important to the University and every act of support is deeply appreciated by all those it touches.
Gifts can fund scholarships, helping some of our brightest students achieve excellence in their academic or extra-curricular endeavours, or specific projects – like the °µÍø½âÃÜ Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence.
